will the cable with the metal clip goes on the mother broad and the other end to the united ether a HD or a CD/DVD unit not limited to these type there are many other cool things you can hookup to a SATA Cable.

Basic your Mother has to have a female connection on it to plug-in to it. Most part they are black in color and its not hard to plug-in to.

You only can have one as master there are pins on the back side of hard drive most have

Cable select> :[:]:::
Master> [:]::::
Slave> ::::: or :::[:]:
remove the Plug in there now it becomes a slave HD.

keep in mind you can only have one drive as a master or C: drive

If you like to know more details please tell me the
Make HD MFG:
Model HD number:

I can look up the manual on it to tell you more about the item totally right on the money.

this is only a sample:

all so it counts how your bois is setup to boot from a IDE drive or a SATA drive or both

your mother broad have to have them connecters to plug in to use a SATA unit in. you can buy a PCI adapter controler to go into your PCI slot to use a SATA drive or unit it basic adapt your mother broad to use a sata unit.

sample Link: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...5452&CatId=508

in the case this unit can handle 4ea sata unit plug inside the tower.

this if your mother broad was not made to use a Sata unit you can use a PCI slot to adapt it. again you need to reset the bootup option in your bois to use this option, most can get the info from the maker of the unit by calling the tech-support of the adapter unit.
===========================================

my case i can use both a sata and IDE drives to use with the mother broad, but i have it set to bootup on IDE drive at this time, i all so can connect 4ea SATA units to it all so.

4ea SATA Unit> not being use
2ea IDE> Drives 1-HD 1-DVD/CD writer

I'm confused also.. you have a sata that you want to use instead of your old drive or you just want to hook up a sata and use it as a slave?

don't use the big ribbons (the IDE cables)

instead use the SATA cables.. its the red ones in cheifs pic .. just plug one end into the harddrive and the other into the the plug on your motherboard marked SATA 1

also make sure the jumpers are correct like cheif said .. so put a jumper on the one that'll make it the master ...

your mother board also needs to be SATA compatiable though .... if they dont.. . well ..your out a $100

steve you think windows serials set it as one for bootup as the master and the rest of them set to slave from inside windows manager drive? asking.

i really don't know much about sata drive i can hook them up to my mother broad it has 4 connection to it.

right now i am using IDE drives 1-DVD/CD writer slave to a 1-300GB HD to mother broad 1-female connection on it only for bootup from.

when I set my sata up I never did any thing with slave drives.

one website I was just at said that the master/slave idea does not apply to sata.

All I did for mine was go into my bios and configure it to bot of off the sata drive, then perform the needed steps to enable support for drives > 132gb in windows xp home edition.

(if you bought xp home edition with sp1 or down, drives > 132gb are not supported out of the box... have to edit the registry. I can provide step by step process, which includes resizing the harddrive after a complete windows install moving it from the 132 limit to the max size )
