do you even know what type of cards they are off hand?
if not take one of the card that came with it to a computer center they should be able to match it up with the right type, if your mother broad came without any RAM cards at all, best take the tower to a tech support or call the MFG of the tower to get the right asker on what type of cards are needed to run on that mother broad. most MFG of computer system have a tollfree number to call. some times a bareborn kit don't come with any RAM cards at all or any software/drivers for the mother broad MCI-tower barebone kit for one don't come with any CDs to instill drivers for the mother broad, they do come with RAM Cards thou

You can often mix different speeds of RAM with each other, but its not recommended, and it will never run faster then what it can handle. You should never mix ECC with sticks that are NOT ECC though.
