Black Friday - The Origin
I didn't know much about it and for others who also would like to know...
Black Friday as a term has been used in multiple contexts, going back to the nineteenth century, where it was associated with a financial crisis in 1869 in the United States. The earliest known reference to "Black Friday" to refer to shopping on the day after Thanksgiving was made in a public relations newsletter from 1961, where it was associated with a financial crisis in 1869 in the United States. "Black Friday" is the name which the Philadelphia Police Department has given to the Friday following Thanksgiving Day. Black Friday is popular as a shopping day for a combination of several reasons. As the first day after the last major holiday before Christmas it marks the official beginning of the Christmas season. Additionally, many employers give their employees the day off as part of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, increasing the potential number of shoppers. |
