need some help...

ok, so the video card finally came for the 2nd system i'm building .. and i go thru the bios and a few thigns are screwy..

i thought the hard drive was gona be a pain in the ass .. but actully thats just fine .. it's the cd drives

on the bios screen it says the burner is set to primary .. which it should be seoncdary .. and the dvd-rom just dosen't show up period.

ok ... my first question .. do you plug it into the primary or secondary IDE slot on the mother board?

and is there something to do with jumpers? because theres nothing on the back of the drives telling you where to put the if you need em..

and i'm using the ribbons the motherbaord came with that have CD-ROM on them ..

any help would be great ..

sounds like you need to install the SATA drivers.

you load them by pressing F6 just as win setup starts (the blue screen). windows asks if you need to load any drivers blah blah etc at the bottom of the screen.

you will need the sata drivers on a floppy disk.

you only find out if you didnt do this after the first reboot.

i got past that .. it asks if you had any previous versions of windows so i put the old '98 disk in there and then the next screen i put the xp disk and it started to formate the hard drive and then installed windows...

now the only problem is microsofts retardedness..

i'm using the same windows i have on my system, the same cd, so when i went to activate it on the system i just built it said i used the cd key too many times.. so what happens when i go to formate this computer again?
