Simple Squad Site -- Released!

Simple Squad Site v1.0b has been released . Full working version with more bug fixes from the last beta and more secure for the admin's . This script is going great and more features will be added as time goes on. The script comes with 19 set styles, but without the ability to edit/make sites YET unless of course you know what your doing. Edit/make styles will come soon . opened the css to edit the colors dont see anything to edit any you php master got any tips?

The colors for the styles are all inserted in the install.
You can easily manually add a new style though.

If Panther will allow us to make add-ons for the script (user hacks) then I might get started on a few.

Ok I just had a quick look at the code and its not exactly easy to add new styles.

You have to basically either go into phpMyAdmin or use an install file to add the style preferences to the database, then you have to modify content_admin.php

If anybody knows what they're doing and still wants to install new styles I have made a script called install_styles.php
But the way panther has coded it means id isn't auto, so you therefore have to guess or go into phpmyadmin what style # you should use next.
Default is 19 templates so you should use 20 next anyway.

To Panther: You may want to modify the install.php script to insert http:// into 'statsurl' in the $tablepre_settings
It may confuse people who dont know HTML how to point it to their site, if you use anything but http:// infront of it, it simply takes you to a site in the same folder (unless you use ../ to go back a directory).
Same for forum URL aswell... also, would you mind people creating hacks for the script?
There is nothing in the license that says we cant, however, it does say we cant distribute un-modified files, would this be the same with mods?

If you want mods/hacks but don't want people to distribute unmodified versions then we could probably do it the vB way, where it tells people to look for something and change the code...

Anywho, just a thought...

For making styles, this will come later. If you wish to create your own, go for it, but you will have to do it on your own for now.

For incerting sytles, use NULL for the stid, you don't have to know the next number. You also don't need an install script, just click (In phpmyadmin) incert new row into styles and fill in the blanks, then edit the field 'style' in the table settings and change the style name. Create a folder in the folder 'styles' on the ftp with the same style name and put the images from another style in there, or make your own. If you wish to edit content_admin.php to add the custom style go for it.

As for the http:// where stats and forum is, I forgot to add the inital value as http://, my bad. I will add that. But I won't have the link automatically put http:// in there, cause people like me like to use links like /forum/ inseatd of the whole stie url. Just a coding preferance.

For moding the script, just write your own mods for your own website, or you can submit the mod idea or idea/code snips to me and if I like it i'll release it with the next version.

The vb way I hate, to complicated for people that don't know how to do it. I just don't want modified versions of the script passed around because it's reflected on me and I didn't code it. It's like, I make somthing, you change it and pass it around, I get blamed and contacted 1000 times about anything wrong with it, when it's not mine.

But keep in mind, i've only been coding php for about 3 weeks ago, this is my first real script that was released and not everything that I want in it is in it. I still have much to learn and I don't have all the ideas in the world. I'm working on this alone so there are gonna be a few more errors like the http:// thing or others, I try to go through the script and re-install it all the time to find somthing wrong but I miss things like that.

If you have some good mod ideas Shughart, maybe you should get ahold of me and we can chat for a bit. 2 heads are better then one.

ok, I'ma re-code the design custom and in a day or so put up a url for you joe's to check out... this script will be very easy for people to re-design with out a style
