Important Why safety at work is not just about you.

Briefly; Besides the fact you don't want to see a mate hurt or killed at work "or anyone else for that matter" the surprise is it can directly affect you and your family. How?

The company I was working for (MWS I cannot specify the company details exactly for legal reasons) was involved in an onsite fatality, a fatality that should never have occurred.

I worked in the engineering workshop and had little to do with onsite operations except that my work had to be accurate and to specification (ie: structural integrity and weld strength)

End result is the they have been sued fined and prosecuted out of existence and so now I have no job and have had to discard years of work and friendship....don't let this happen to your company! Be proactive not reactive, never say that will do or that looks good enough.

all it takes one to bring the house of cards down

i get what your saying, but you do have history and use it. if you have no part of what was done wrong you be ok getting some job

i not a fan of unions ( to me they bleed company's dry), but if your part of a union they can find you a new job fast

I would add my own experience, when I worked in the Aircraft industry I never saw anyone fired for making a mistake.
But, I have seen a few co-workers fired for making mistakes and trying to hide those mistakes.

To me if I have hid a mistake that cost hundreds of lives, I couldn't have lived with it. Because, at 30,000 ft. , there's no room for mistakes.

Always be honest about the work that you do. That the real defenistion of any job description.
