Al-Zarqawi killed in Iraq airstrike

Terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been killed in Iraq.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki announced the death on Iraqi state television.

"Today Zarqawi has been terminated," he said.

The Jordanian-born leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq was killed in a US airstrike to the north of the capital Baghdad.

"Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been killed in Baghdad during a bombing raid," said Mr al-Maliki

Seven al-Zarqawi aides were also killed in the raid in the city of Baquba 40 miles north of the capital.

At least one senior aide was captured alive in the operation.

The top US commander in Iraq, General George Casey, said al-Zarqawi's body had been positively identified by fingerprints, facial recognition and 'known scars'.

Al-Zarqawi was blamed for a string of atrocities in Iraq since the fall of Saddam Hussein and is believed to have been behind to the kidnap and murder of British engineer Ken Bigley.

thats where i was at while i was in iraq bad city had to take it back 4 times killed alot of people doing it sadly.

The success came after several near misses in the three-year pursuit of Iraq’s most-wanted militant.

And just last month, al-Zarqawi was said to have leaped from a moving truck to elude U.S. special forces on his tail, an escape filmed by a Predator reconnaissance craft. And another airstrike earlier in the final two-week hunt also missed him, the officials said.

DD- sorry "nope exit strategy" when Iraq is fully working and taken care of their own county with a fully working navy, army, air force, beside a fully working police force to boot. then we can leave...... we there for at lease next 3-5 years unless all the fighting is ended we be staying there longer till Iraq can take care of their own country we have to baby them till then.

right now the US-Arm Force is working for Iraq's, when they need us we are there for them on call 7/24 till they have their own act together.

we be out of Iraq a lot faster then Afghanistan they really are in bad shape worst off then Iraq is. Afghanistan has no then at all they really are in bad shape to start with.

will i think the real mean reason we gone after Iraq is Pres bush father could not do a thing about Iraq his hands were tie, his son wanted to go after iraq by any means! if it was base on faked report he use it, to get his way......now it to late we in the deep of it all. we can't backout of it we said he will help Iraq get in shape and help them out.

it not like germany or japan were we was able to get it over with and get them on their own two feet, we got a lot of jerks over there getting a kick in fooling other to die for a good reason only we don't like to fight for a long time it cost a lot and people die off........war is not fun as life is so much better then death
