The sum of the positive odd integers less than 50 is
suntracted from the sum of the positive even integers less than or equal to 50. What is the resulting difference?

A: 0
B: 25
C: 50
D: 100

Explanation:
The sum of the positive odd integers less than 50 is 1 + 3 + 5 + --- + 45 + 47 + 49, and the sum of the postive even integers less then or equal to 50 is 2 + 4 + 6 + --- + 46 + 48 +50. When the first sum is suntracted from the second, the terms can be regrouped to form ( 2 - 1) + (4 - 3) + --- + (48 - 47) + (50 - 49), which is just 1 + 1 +1 + --- + 1 where there are 25 ones. Therefore, the correcr answer is 25.

Represent the length and width of rectangle R as x and y. Then the area of R is xy. the length of rectangle S is 20% longer than x, which is x + 0.20x, or 1.2x. Similarly, the width of S is y - 0.20y, or 0.8y. The area of S is (1.2x) (0.8y), which simplifies to 0.96xy. From this it follows that the area of rectangle S is 4% less than the area of rectangle R.

60x60=3600
-60x-60=-3600

720000 ways plus and minus or

60 * 59 * 58
