a black screen after login process is a firewall, winxp has an internal firewall, chief-ADFP's solution for that is correct, if you still get a blackscreen after that, more than likely you ISP, as numerous ADSL and Cable providors are doing now, has an Internal firewall as well, if you are using a router or a hub you might also run into firewall problems, for solutions to ISP firewall contact the providor, for router or hub, contact manufacturer with 1-800 tech numbers on installation guides
