Hmm I must have been on some other crazy site, because I looked all over and could not find a demo for it. Maybe that was Acid Rain's thing.

if u have trouble getting the 30 day trial of 3ds max, u could try to get hold of Autodesk Viz.....it's exactly the same prog.....same developers & exactly the same interface (infact if u didn't look at title bar u wouldn't know)

In 1990, as Autodesk (www.autodesk.com) was achieving CAD market dominance with its flagship AutoCAD, originally introduced in 1982, the company set up a multimedia division that included among its offerings a rendering and animation program called 3D Studio. By the mid '90s, the Autodesk multimedia division gained a distinct identity as Kinetix. At the same time, Kinetix spawned two flavors of 3D Studio: the original, full-blown product, called MAX, which was and is geared toward cinematic effects; and a less expensive version called VIZ, which was scaled down to the presumably less demanding visualization requirements of the AEC market. The principal tradeoffs in VIZ (versus MAX) included the sacrifice of MAX's advanced character animation and sub-object animation, and the addition to VIZ of some CAD-like features, such as object snaps, not contained in MAX. VIZ also was priced some 40 percent less than MAX--appropriate to AEC users for whom visualizations were and are more likely to be a byproduct rather than an end product.

When Autodesk acquired the Canada-based cinema effects leader Discreet Logic in 1998, the company merged Kinetix into discreet as the discreet division of Autodesk. VIZ 3 was launched under the discreet division banner. At that time, Discreet incorporated into VIZ interoperability with Lightscape (a product that discreet had acquired in 1997, and which, in turn, was a direct descendant of rendering research at the seminal Cornell Program in Computer Graphics). Lightscape replaced the RadioRay rendering plug-in (licensed from UK-based Lightworks) that had previously been used in VIZ.
