differences between types of installations

when installing one of the games of the series DF [1-4] have two options the short and the extended [long / big] ...

if you install the short version, in this :
1)can be install expansion and mods ...???
2) if you add a no cd that allows you to play without CD can play the coop missions...????

Are you referring to the Full install vs. the Typical install?

If so, then you could install a mod with both versions.

But as far as I know, you MUST have the full install to play without a CD.

All the CD based (Those that are not digital download) installs are now redundant and need to be updated and depending on the game there are varying degrees of success.
Try registering your game key with NovaLogic (if you haven't already) and the game may become available through digital download, I do know that the digital downloads will accept old keys.
