_ essentials of a successful site

Well there isn't any particular protocol to be followed while making a site. However here are a few guidelines that might help make your site better.

#1. Most people feel that its all about the looks, all about the visual appeal and therefore often get carried away. Well yes ofcourse your site should be appealing to visitors but you must realize that at the end of the day content retains visitors, not just looks.

#2 This doesn't mean you have the privilege of abusing your right to an ugly site Have images but not too many. Keep it simple because though some images may look awesome in photoshop or whichever software you use, they make the page very heavy, literally toturing 56k visitors!

#3 Use meta tags. They're good for you.

#4 Keep banners and images to your site lite. If they're too heavy, people won't use em

#5 Try to build a community that will increase interaction on YOUR site through YOUR site. Tag Boards rule and they're fun...

#6 If your site is a specific vortal, maintaining a board is a good idea

#7 Don't lie about visitors. People are smarter than you think. If you're doing it for link ups, its gonna kick you in the ass soon so don't...

#8 Reply to email... its a good habit. Yea some are annoying but then it really builds goodwill... There's nothing like the word of mouth.

#9 If you mail someone with a proposition regarding your site and they don't reply, do it once again but then stop... cuz if you don't you'll spoil your name and end up on the block list

#10 Mailing lists are always a good idea...

#11 Limit the profanities.... wait... that applies for me too.

#12 Put a counter... its always ego boosting to see it increase.

#13 Make sure you have ZERO javascript errors and the like... the debug messages are annoying after a while.

#14 Constantly update the site... if you're not updating... you're stagnating!

#15 Go with you gut, it'll be fine... hard work always pays off

Tips

I've been designing huge sites for years....here's the BEST tips you'll need.
-Design: You need good graphics, and great html work. Somthing thats gonna load quick for people with those slow ass 56k connections.
-Innovation: The BIGGEST tip ever, doesnt matter how bad your site design is...if you got a good idea run with it.
-Profanity: SB said not to use it, it honestly doesnt matter. I used profanity all the time on WrestlePics.COM...15-30 thousand unique hits a day and hundreds of thousands of total hits a day.
-A good host: www.gleemhost.com is one of the best I have seen speed wise. If your planning a media site though...you need a dedicated server my friend.
-Women: Nude,Non-nude...whatever, sex sells. Its been proven.

You get them things on your site with a great domain name and you got a keeper
