Hey guys,

I heard there is a word processer that is a lot like Microsoft Word it has a database and spreadsheet to. It is supposed to be open source and free. Has anyone heard of it?

Open Office 2.0 beta arrives

By John Oates
Published Wednesday 2nd March 2005 13:07 GMT

A beta version of Open Office 2.0 is available for download. The open source office applications suite claims to offer most of the functions of Microsoft's Office product. It includes word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and drawing software.

The beta has a new user interface - designed to make refugees from Microsoft Office feel at home, according to NewsForge. It also improves interoperability with Microsoft file formats. The site warns that the software needs further testing and is offered with "no guarantees".

Most new features are in the Writer programme. These include word count for selected text, wizards for setting up databases and tables and floating toolbars.

If you do test them do let us know.

I need to know if you can save in Word format or open word format. That is the most important thing because if you are sending resumes or you need to stick a formatted version on another computer...that is the format you need. it is better that RTF.

Thanks for info DD.

I have office 2003 but I hate powerpoint.

I have it because my bro-in-law got the pro edition.

Not going to use HIS edition and I can't find Office 2002 for a decent price.

Hey, I looked at it briefly...

Anywho it looks a lot like office it has a bar down the left that has picture stuff on it.

Looks like it has a presentation creator and a spreadsheat/database program.

The gui is not the best but it is free...I'll take what I can get.
