Downside is I bet you're going to get terrible battery life with it. It only comes with a six cell battery. If you're cool with having it plugged in all the time then you're golden!

yes lol

i mostly use my laptop as a desktop computer. I'll occasionally tote it to school but that's a waste of time usually. I'm used to having a big laptop because this one i'm still on is huge too. This new one looks pretty slick too .. it's got a brushed metal cover ... hopefully it doesn't make it way 20 lbs lol

atholon: yea i still got it. it's crapping out on me though. it is 4 years old or so. it doesn't take much to make it crash (just shut down from overheating). I was just typing a paper (battery settings set to low) and that was all it took. if i start a game it'll just shut down. I did try formatting but that of course did nothing. There's no dust ... it's just old lol. that and i cracked the screen

I have a question also:

what is really wrong with my laptop?

I'm pretty sure something is just shorting out. It all started with starcraft II .. i used to be able to run it on all high settings .. then about halfway through a game my computer will really start to bog down. this happend around mid game when stuff starts getting complex.

so anyways ... i lowered the settings and it fixed the problem for a while .. but now I can't do anything. like i said .. the slightest stress on memory or processing power and it's enough to make it poop out. it's to the point where just starting a game (any game) or having a youtube vid up with itunes going is enough to do it

am i right on my assumptions?

Gfx card fan or cpu fan I bet. Most likely CPU. Might be an easy fix.

i can hear the fans spooling up to the max .. then the computer will start lagging and then crash

i tinkered with it :\ never took a laptop apart before (this would be the last time, too) but everything seemed to be fine. i turned it on to check exactly what you said

"GTX 425M" the 400 series is pretty new and all but that's about the lowest performer in the whole 4 series.

It could be one of the other fans revving to make up for the one that's dead. In my experience it has always been something with the processor overheating when it behaves like that. You could try taking it apart and looking at it to see. You could try using more cooling gel between the heatsink and cpu too.
