new server help

Hi everyone, I picked up a new dfx2 server to try some maps on and want to know if anyone can answer some questions. I never had a server on Nova before.
1. How can I have a non gold site with over 16 players? I see a lot servers that are not gold or silver.
2. I dropped new maps into the ftp root folder and they show up in Wolfrat, but when I double click to move them over to the current mission side they just disapear.
3. Some maps have 4 or 5 files with them. Do I have to take all the files out of the folder and put them in the root directory seperatly or can I just move the folder over?
4. How do you change the color of the server name?
5. I had to buy a new DFX2 through steam (UGH). Is there anyway to show the pings again?
Thanks for any help guys.

I'm not sure if you are hosting through the game client or you have hired an external server (don't know much about that side of it), 16 slots seemed to be the max players through the host but that could depend on your service bandwidth. I also located a service that allows slots for aprox. $1 per month

Changing colors needs these values

<cfc800080> purple
2 ways to try

<cfc800080>My server text
or
<cfc800080>My server text<-co>

WAC example
//text to bottom left of screen
if ontick(1) and never() then
text("<cfc8932>Follow these guys to the valley.")
endif

or

//text to bottom centre of screen
if ontick(1) and never() then
consol("<cfc8932>Follow these guys to the valley.")
endif

or

//multiple colors
if ontick(1) and never() then
consol("<cfc8932>Follow these guys to the<-co><C0C0C0> valley.")
endif

<cf8932> <cfc8932> <cFC8932><-co>
Green Yellows <cF8932><-co>

<cff> <C0C0><cfcF> <c00c000> <cfcFF0000><-co>
Blue Bright Greens

<FFE4E>Light blue

<C0C0C0>or <C0C>black<cf>

<cfcFF0000>Red <cfc800080> purple

To answer q.5 (regarding Steam) I would prefer to PM or eMail you. Let me know here if that is OK.

Bin TUTE

Quote:
Bin files are currently being used to correct things that don't work in NILE, (LoL) for instance the map's name appearing on the loading screen. To begin with I recommend you download Devilsclaw's Bin tools and extract them to a folder of your choice.

http://www.dfbarracks.com/downloads/...ion=df&fid=214

Now create a new txt file in notepad and paste everything that is orange into it.

'[Mission Dialog]'

'[info]'
Title = "Your maps title goes here";
briefing = "Your mini briefing goes here.
Goals: <-uco>
<cFC8932> 1.<-co> Write your first objective here.
<cFC8932> 2.<-co> Write your second objective here.
<cFC8932> 3.<-co> Write your thirdobjective here.
<cFC8932> 4.<-co> Write your fourth objective here.
<cFC8932> 5.<-co> Write your fifth objective here.
<cFC8932> 6.<-co> Write your sixth objective here.
<cFC8932> 7.<-co> Write your seventh objective here.
<cFC8932> 8.<-co> Write your eighth objective here.
Notes: <-uco>
<cFC8932> -<-co> Write your first note here
<cFC8932> -<-co> Write your second note here
";

Now write in your own objectives and notes, be warned that there is limited space in the window displayed when a player presses the I key. You will have to test to ensure half of it is not missing.

Now run the TXT2BIN exe and browse to your txt file, it will convert it to a bin file and save it alongside the txt file. Name the file so it's the same as your map file and drop it in your game folder for it to load with the map.

Because mappers cannot make the objectives appear when the G button is pressed, this is used instead. To ensure people know it's there use a random event to display text on screen like below.

if Past(20) and random(200) then //once past 20 seconds and randomly 1 in 200 times then
text("") //clears a blank line between previous text and what follows
text("Press the I key for the objectives")
endif

q.3
extract all files and place in the DFX2 directory.
.ifl and .log files are not needed to run the map. (They are information based files useful for measuring vertex data and object counts)
The main files used are (if you use the MEd not the NILE)

.bms (the actual mission construct executed by the game)

.wac (complimentary to the editor)

.bin (for modifying objectives and renaming players, waypoints and other mission related parameters)

.pcx (For single player mission intro screenshot)

there are others but they are not generally used but you will find these things out as you go.
The file that you actually edit to construct a map is the .MIS file which is up to you to upload with your maps or use yourself. It is not used to actually load the map. It is what the editor converts to .bms.

Thankyou

OMG Thank you for your help. You answered a lot of questions. I didn't think anyone was going to get back to me. Our server is Big Bobs Batlefield. Bob is a great map maker and I want to play with his maps. My brother's company is giving us a server from UGS in Chicago. It is up and running now thanks to you, for your help. I am still having troubles with it and will still be working on it. I also noticed that wolfrat doesn't work the best on DFX2. So I am doing most of the stuff in the files. If anyone wants to come and play on a DM server they are more than welcome. My email is listed in my profile and my TS3 is: CHRISTI.DARKSTARVENT.COM:10142

It's Never too much trouble for an NHQ member as far as I'm concerned my friend. Big Bobs Battleground...interesting.
I didn't think wolfrat worked any more, there is a new in-game client going around called overwolf...
I'll get back to you soon on the hosting matter when you have things sorted....
Cheers
