Crysis: Warhead
I picked up my PC Gamer magazine from work today, the top story was for Crysis: Warhead. It is apperently NOT a sequel, nor a prequel. Instead you take the role of Psycho, one of Nomad's teamates, you start off your game about halfway through the original crysis where Psycho and Nomad split up.
The following isn't entirely my words, most of this stuff can be cited from the PC gamer magazine. Crytek has to deal with the perception problem that its CryEngine2 wont run on anything slow than an expensive super computer. It does, my computer is proof, its worthless and could run it just fine at medium-low settings. EA said the game nearly sold 1.5 million copies worldwide. Which they did infact profit from. People still beleive that any cryengine2 games will be toned down to console ports. But know this: Crysis Warhead will be a PC exclusive. Crytek put together a computer a cheap computer that they claim will run perfectly fine. Shuttle SG31G25 Barebone case $239.99 Intel Pentium E2180 2.0Ghz Dual-Core CPU $82.99 Samsung SH-S203B DVD burner $29.99 Hitachi Deskstar 7K160 160GB Hard Drive $45.99 A-Data 2Gb DDR2 SDRAM $94.99 MSI Geforce 8600GT 512MB Video Card $94.99 Windows Vista 32-bit Home premium $109.99 Total: $653 The prices were from Newegg.com this rig obviously wont be pulling very-high settings at a high resolution, but crytek sais this is just fine for a casual gamer, and the graphics will still look better than console games. There are 2 new vehicles: A gun mounted hovercraft which looks pretty badass and an Advanced Scout Recon (ASR) vehicle which looks like an overly armored ATV. The singleplayer campaign should take around 8-10 hourse to complete. Cevat Yerli, Crytek's cofounder and president. States that the Warhead will actually run better then the original crysis, beleive it or not. So if your current rig doesn't fare so well against it on high, then you'll surely be able to take it on in this installment. speaking of graphic settings, Yerli also said that the highest settings will be accessible to people using DX9 without having to use a crack. Crysis Warhead boasts that it will have more complex particle effects that don't tax your system of resources as well as improvements to how lights and shadows interact. PC Gamer: Recently, you've said that Crysis was among the most pirated games. How do you know that? Cevat Yerli: Well, we went into the Torrent statistics and there were charts for this. We learned that piracy harmed Call of Duty 4 quite a bit, too. We were hit even stronger because our spec requirements were, when we release, pretty high. There was a statistic that there were around 15-20 pirated copies per one legit copy sold. It doesn't mean we would sell 15-20 times more, of course, but at least if piracy was lower we would double our sales. You say that Warhead's success will determine whether Crytek makes PC exclusives in the future. Yes, it'll have a huge impact. I'm not saying we'll give up on the PC. The question will be, how online will we be [using online authentication], and how many other platforms will we support in the future. We did announce Cryengine2 for the PS3 at GDC, so we have development there, but it is not Crysis-related. The concern for PC gamers is that cross platform development means that the PC versions will be dumbed-down in gameplay and graphics. I think there is a difference target audience for the console market. I wouldn't say dumbed-down, but you have to distill the experience to make it easier to access, and you have to limit the number of options you have. If we were to do a multi-platform title, then the way we approach it is that there would be a design team that works the console experience and a design team that works on the PC experience. What about technology? Would you continue to push PC hardware? I think we wouldn't be Crytek if each platform didn't have its technology pushed. |

I thought the gameplay sucked on the original, the special suit strengths wear off too fast. I hope it is better in this version.

agree with that and tbh the warhead trailer is hardly getting me excited.
the main strength of the game is the gfx and but noone has a comp that can play it maxed out yet haha (well maybe with 2x 280 gpu's) |

I'm so jealous my friends won Radeon 4870's so they can play anything
Farcry 2 is going to rock though.

I'm no pirate, but i realize that with game companies saying that their going to cater more to the console aspect of things, that means the hackers and crackers are going to move there too. to me there is NO point in going to the console market if eventually, they are going to experience the same problem there.

honestly now,
a single 8800GT can max all settings out on very high and get a decent framerate. why? its set to 1024x768 and no AF or AA that still looks decent |

1024x768 on what type of screen? maybe ok for a smaller CRT but no point in running non-native res on a TFT (unless u have 1:1 pixel mapping, but who wants a tiny image?).

It was in a youtibe vid, the dude had a 8800gt with that resolution. anything at that resolution looks fine on my 19" CRT
