Absolutely Useless facts #1

I'm bored. Quoting this out of a book.
Why is there no blue food?

In each retina there are 150 million rods that you use in low light coditions. Rods give you black ad white vision. But there are also about 6 million color sensitive cells also called cones, about 3 million are sensitive to red light about 3 million are sensitive to green light. But there are only about 5000 cells that are sensitive to blue light, so whay are the less blue cones than green and red?

The visual electrophysiologists (huh?) say that it's because blue is not a vey important color in survival, the sky is blue the ocean is blue cause it reflects the blue color of the sky, but thats about it and theres hardly any blue food so it seems reasonable that we should have only a few blue cones.

But then it raises the bigger question: Why is there hardly any blue food? Maybe it's there we just cant see it.

Blueberries appear blue but when you seperate the dyes using electricity (elecrophysiology maybe?) there is no blue in at all.

You can use electrophysiology to seperate dyes in all foods and it wont be the color it seems to be on the outside. But, when ya eat em and drip it on your shirt, its blue. lol Besides, isn't blue a primary color? What colors mix to make blue?

I don't know.
All I can remember from schooldays is that the principal natural occurance of the colour blue in nature is cupric compunds (copper) which is poisonous to virtually all plant life. Which accounts (possibly) for why there is very little blue plants out there, save for the odd flower and as you say, blue berries.
