installing xp..

so i screwed up my pc, and without going into much detail i just need to know the commands you type in DOS to get windows to install. I have the boot disk and everything to get into dos..

freakin .. windows is so gay. I used a program to wipe my hard drive .. and now i wanna put xp on again... now it asks for another windows cd for no god damn reason because it cant find any previous versions of windows. of course it cant read any of the disks i tried.. including my old 98 and 2000 disks ...

u using an Upgrade version to install? because every other version of XP will install straight from the CD.

if it's an upgrade cd, running the installer from a DOS prompt won't make a difference, because it will still probably want proof that you are upgrading from a previous version.

you should just be able to type D -> enter -> SETUP

(where D is your cd drive)

/edit, tip if you are using the upgrade cd

Installing a Windows XP Pro or Home Upgrade CD without a Previous OS installed

Begin the windows install as if it was the full version, during the install you will be prompted for a previous operating system, at his point put your old operating system CD in the drive and browse to the I386 folder (for Windows NT or 2000), WIN9X folder (for Windows ME), or WIN98 folder (for Windows 98). Click ok, the windows upgrade will confirm this is a full version and continue with the upgrade (after you replace the upgrade CD

yes it is an upgrade cd for xp pro...

the thing is i did try putting an older cd in .. win 2000 .. but then it didn't work ... it will just say it can't read the cd .. i can put in a complete bull**** cd and it'll say the same thing .. so i know its not the win 2000 cd

and im not getting how you can browse to the folder that you said ... no where does it let me do that .. it just asks me to put the cd in and it does its thing ...

this whole step is so ****ing lame .. unbelivable ...

Cant you download an XP install disc? If you've got a valid product key, i don't see why you can't download the install disc.
