Sad Multiple computers in house

Hello all this is my first post. A friend of mine has two computers in his house and is using a cable modem and then a hub to split of to the computers. He has bought two copies of DFTD and would like to host on one computer while his daughter plays on his server on the other. It wont let him do this. They both however are able to play on my server at the same time. What happens is the computer hangs up when joining to his server. There are no firewalls.Has two nova world accounts with different names and passwords. His server hasnt any problems letting anyone else join. Just his other computer.Weird Stuff huh!Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks The Jerk

Mine does the same. I think it has something to do with matching ip address and or gateway #'s. I also think 2 puters trying to connect to each other thru the same connection is not going to happen. Maybe a LAN option could work. I never tried it. I am not a networking expert. Maybe some1 who knows about networking could give u some options.

i have the same situation here, i was informed that for hosting you would have to have 2 modems...therefor the hub solves nothing but for 2 'puters to play any server except yourown...wish i knew that before i got the hub...

Well, a while ago, we had a small LAN-party....5 pc were connected with eachother: No prob. The Host of LW was first connected to INET with Cablemodem. The rest could join through nova, but the last 1 who joined wasn't able to connect, that was really weird......but:....

U R Able to join even when u have the same IP onto the Inet, BUT!!! I don't know how the 2 pc's have been connected through the HUB, ARE both pc's seperately connected onto INET , or is the 2nd 1 connected through the HUB with the first 1 onto the INET.

The best way to connect both pc's onto the INET is to let the 2nd pc logon onto the INET through the first pc. So u have to make a small network with the 2 pc giving them IP: 192.168.0.1 (first1) and 192.168.0.2 (2nd1), SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0.(Don't forget to make a ipx/spx protocol(for gaming) and set the gateway right for the 2nd pc).

If this is what u already have: don't forget u have to Host the game on the first puter.........
U also can use the programme: Sygate to connect several pc onto the INET through just 1 pc which is connected.

I hope it works, It worked for me tho....(If u are using MSN, u can't accept or send stuff to other people, cuz MSN can't see the 2nd pc's ip so the information can't reach it.)

well i dunno nuttin much lol but i heard a few things.
if u used a router u cannot play DF on the net, even though the router gives out diff IP addies cause the line still haev one ip addy. lots of ppl have this problem, but hardly any games let u play over the net. well there is my useless 2 cents

That's true, but if u R not connected through a router, but through another pc, it does work I've played, UT, SOF, SOF2, DFLW, DF:TFD and even WCIII through a LAN-Based INET connection.

i dont know if anyone said this yet... but you have to have the computers name's different... i think you can do this through My Computer... if they arent different names, then i think it will try to send the server to itself... if you know what i mean, its hard to explain.

If any1 is interested......

If any1 is interested......
My Set up works like this:

1 pc with 2 networkcards
1 pc with 1 networkcard
1 cable modem connection
1 5port hub

-----------------------------------
cable modem to hub-uplink
hubport1 to networkcard1 on pc1
networkcard2 on pc1 to hubport2
hubport3 to networkcard1 on pc2
-----------------------------------
Windows XP Pro
both puters are networked.
Drag, drop, copy, move, delete, edit files/folders is a wiz.
pc1 shares it's internet connection with pc2.
I am 'able' to host/serve seperate games on both puters,
but I don't because my baby cable connection is not buff
enuff to handle it without tons of lag.
pc1 can not join a game served by pc2, and vice versa.
Since I have a dynamic address it changes at times.
pc1 will auto find the new address and no prob.
pc2 is lost because addresses have changed, therefore
I have to run the networking wizard AGAIN each time this
happens(what a pain) to set the new addresses on pc2.

pc1 can serve a dflw game but every1 is soon punted.
pc1 can serve a tfd game but every1 is soon punted.
pc1 can serve a bhd game with Zer0 punt probs.

pc2 is a constant tfd server, no probs

Thanx i'll do some looking into INET,
Still would like to find out about this Mysterious punt prob.
