I've been riding and racing mountain bikes/downhill for years now and love every minute of it. I don't get a chance to race anymore due to my job but I did pickup a sweet deal on my new bike last season. I got really lucky and found a guy that had cracked the frame and sent it back to the factory but got antsy and bought a new bike while it was getting repaired. So I got an eight thousand dollar bike with a brand new factory welded frame and paint job for four thousand.

Cool! I think I'll probably max out on $1200 for a mountain bike. I don't plan on competing I just want something that will do well on the trails.
One of the sucky things about some of the super expensive bikes is that they require a lot more maintenance and I don't want to have to deal with that. You've got guts Stephen; I don't plan on doing anything that intense. I'm hoping to go on a trip to bike Moab Utah this year though. Should be awesome...
