JOTR compared with DFX

Although I've played a number of Novalogic games, I didn't pick up JOTR after disliking a beta demo and finding it to be ugly and scrappy, even for a beta. However, DFX came out soon after and features an excellent engine - great graphics, great input (except Novalogic's insistance on strange crouch/prone controls - if I'm crouching and I press the crouch key, I want to stand up dammit!), and as it's a budget game I can't imagine they spent a lot of time on the engine. Is the final (and fully patched) JOTR as good technically as DFX?

Also is there single player? Co-op? LAN play without an internet connection? What's the general consensus?
