Shoutbox - character limit and font problem

Congrats on the Shoutbox. It is the best I've found on the net. It is exactly what I was looking for. Something simple, easy to use and customize.

My question is. Is there a way to put a character limit, so users aren't able to input a very long message. I would like to know, because this way, I can calculate the shout limit to a maximum without having to use the scrollbar.

Another small problem is. I changed color and stuff. And the links (Extras | All Shouts) looked fine. But once I clicked on "All shouts" the font turned white, and I can no longer see it, unless I highlight it.
