Link counter + phpMapdb

I want to add a hit/link counter to some of the programs and various stuff my site offers. I guess a novice at php such as myself would be able to do that with some help.

I have the phMapDb installed and running, which counts hits on maps could I use the same sql table as this uses?

Can anyone hold my hand and walk me through this? It would really help me.
