Hey i set up one of my old pcs as a server and it has a p3 500mhz proccesor (me being a cheap bastard) i dont want to upgrade the p3 cuz i woulld have to upgrade 90% of the other equipment so im trying to get as much speed out of the system as i can!

So basically i do not now how to overclock i just understand what it does. If someone could tell me how to overclock a proccessor and a vid card and anything else u can overclock plz do!!

depends on the pc make and the bios if you can overclock a cpu, most retail pc makers have locked the settings of the cpu and they have no support for oc it. the gpu on the other hand is,usually, if there isnt a setting for it in the menu of graphics propities u can usually install an omega driver or other type of driver that yr vidcard supports that has a setting in the advanced part of settings that alows u to adjust the core and memory frequency.
if u are able to adjust the gpu and memory, start out 1 notch at a time and play a game like BHD or anyother game that is graphics intensive, for a few muinits between adjustments to see if there is any problems with the adjustments, this is a must b4 u save settings for boot, to see if it will work.

and tempreture is the life of a cpu and gpu, if you have a little wenie cooler then dont over clock for it will usually fry the gpu and cpu. depending on the cpu you can get a new cooler for 20$us up to 50$us depending on location and the type you get.

always remeber when oc anything small adjustments dont just turn it all the way up for it will usually malfuntion and will be unable to boot up or see anything during when systm is on, and also it could make damage to cpu and gpu and have frequent crashes.
and always read the manule that came with pc b4 u do anything just incase.
so check cooler and see if it big enough, check gpu does it have a heatsink and if it does, does it have a fan on it, always check these things out b4 oc.
and does the bios have an option for oc,do you have all the latest updates software firmware etc.
what kindof memory module do u have and is it enough to transmit the data faster if cpu is in a oc mode.
ive found out that if the vidcard is a 64mb or smaller it is usually pointless to oc. it just all depends on how far you want to go.
i will add more when i think of it.

Depends on the motherboard. Sometimes you can overclock from BIOS and sometimes you have to set a jumper on the motherboard. It just depends on the motherboard.

Umm... depends.

Usually you tap the delete key when you first turn your computer on. Then in there there should be something for Front Side Bus speed or Clock speed or something to that effect.

man go buy a USD-500.00 computer tower it have a new CPU and run faster, then all you have to do is add-in the old hardware to it. there maybe some hardware that may not work with it, then replace them by buying a newer hardware sample you may have a old Cd-writer for Windows 98SE, it may not work with Windows Xp so spend USD-60.00. beats getting a headackes the way you going at it.

you over drive it to much may burn chips out and trash it after you down with it.

what ever way you go good luck.

i have a USD-2.800.00 system if i upgrade the system by buying new hardware it CPU with a higher speed it would cost me about USD-1.600.00, if i buy a complete tower then add-in my old hardware it would only cost like USD-500.00 for me.
