Haha, yeah I hate little dogs, I want something bigger.
And yes, Willy (my cat) is a great lap cat. I've trained him to ask before he hops in your lap though. He will walk up to you and sit, you can wave your hand to say no and he'll walk away, or you can put your hand in your lap and he'll hop on you and cuddle.
He's a great cat, he's also house trained so there's no litter box. If he needs to go he will sit by the door and cry for you to let him out. I love Tabby cats.
