Bad coding - Nova's tiles frequently get corrupt. I remember on BHD, they would sometimes "stick" to the terrain, or even outright crash the game. They fixed them a little for DFX and DFX2, but they're still prone to epic failure.

They can be easily broken, like what you did with turning them into trees.

I'm assuming, when removing the .til file from the folder, the map works, right? Sometimes it works to just delete the affected individual tile if you know where it is.

Hopefully, with DF:AF, Nova will have ended the concept of using a separate file for tiles. It makes it much easier for stuff to go wrong in-game.
