"Hop in! We're joyriding."
A brief interview with Black Hawk Down surviver US Army Sergeant First Class John Collett. He talks up his game.
Q. What makes Delta Force Black Hawk Down better than other war sims?
A. Realism. The developers were very receptive to our criticisms about how many weapons worked, what weapons we'd carry, how to use night vision, stuff like that. They actually went out, fired the weapons and got audio of bullet hits.
Q. You had a lot of input on the final game. What did the geeks get wrong?
A. Little stuff mostly. They would have a prototype of a character that they were all proud of and we'd have to tell them that he was holding his gun like a girl.
Q. What's the least realistic thing about war games in general?
A. Weapons. People always carry too much weight and unlimited ammunition. If you're saying it's Vietnam, or WWII, you can't run around with 1,000 rounds of ammo in your pocket.
Q. So if we win this game, can we consider ourselves expert Rambos?
A. Well, first person shooter games build cohesion and team work. The multiplayer modes allow you to communicate with other people to accomplish a goal. The 50-person multiplayer in incredible.
