At install go to setup.exe and set win98/ME compatibility and Turn off desktop composition.
Make sure it installs anywhere BUT not in Program Files (x86) if you have 64bit windows.
I installed it just then after reading your post. No music etc... unless you have the original CD or a VCD mounted.
