Its a good idea to have Guarding turned off since it only activates the objects special state. Does the boat go in a straight line? or is its next waypoint apart of a different list? Did you specify that the waypoint list does NOT loop?
about the events:
make a test map just to try things out.
make an area trigger and name it test wp1
place the player's first waypoint in the area trigger and another one outside the trigger. Then class those two waypoints as the player's waypoints.
Now create an event
IF:
ssn 10000 in area trigger (test wp1) ~ Delay 5 seconds
THEN:
Leave this blank, unless you want to have it corresponding to something else you want to try.
Now in your first waypoint, the one placed in the area trigger, choose that last event as an advancement event
now put the player start marker outside of the area trigger
when you try the map out, the player should step into the area trigger and it should only take 5 seconds before he will be redirected to the next waypoint.
keep in mind that the advancement event feature does not work for vehicles and NPCs
