Actually, I think its only proper that they are left there.

I think there's something inherent in people that look at Everest and want to summit it, there's a drive and passion that must dominate someones life, anyone even looking at Everest knows its not a guaranteed thing that you will summit and/or survive...

I suspect that the type of person that attempts it probably finds it comforting to know that if they do die, they'll die doing what they love and left on the mountain that dominated their life.

I reckon it also probably grounds the climbers a bit, to know the risks as quantifyable figures is one thing but to see it for real when climbing...
