The .50 Barrett was used during the Gulf War, so it has been around for a while. Mainly used to take out hard targets such as the engine block on a vehicle/aircraft. Not used as an anti-personnel weapon, in general.

I'm curious, though ..... does this mean that if you pick a sniper, you can't use an assault rifle? Or if you're a close quarters specialist, does that mean you can't use a sniper rifle? That's the way I'm interpreting the announcement.

If that's the case, that is going to suck.
