AutoPunting comes from many problems, some of which include the person's connection type - if he's on a phone modem, it could be problems with a noisey line or the modem or even the isp.
Are you running a firewall? This can sometimes cause problems also, you might try lowering your settings or turn it off to see if this helps. Routers can also sometimes cause problems for some people.
