i dont have any personal knowledge in this category, but i remember quite a few years ago of others talking about trying something similar but were unable to get very far along because the shading was a fixed asset within the coding itself since there is no "time-of-day" coding in bhd.

you might be able to compare tod functionality in joint ops to see if there is a way to implement it in bhd since both games are based on the same theoretical game engine.
