A safe way to check is to have an addon installed to your browser that warns of mal sites like the WOT Web Of Trust.
Save the link location using the right click context menu where you can select:
"Copy Link Location" paste it into your search engine NOT the Address Bar. IE Paste and search or search etc... where you can see if any thing pops up about it before proceeding. Remember that
Private Browsing does NOT protect you.
Note that sites making a reference to it will still show up ok but that is just the site making the reference ("Norton, AVG etc..") not the site itself!
