Slowed it down a lot is ref. to the AV 'footprint', and I agree Nortons though efficent
has a footprint that is just unbearable in many arty or games pc's, more of a business app.
The real question here atholon, is how much are you risking to loose?
If you are just the average home gamer then very little, other than stuff that you already havn't backed up, photos emails etc, but if you are best described as a medium to heavy user, more than 4-6 hours a day, then it may be assumed you have some heavy ira'placable stuff that may be backed up every hour or so.
Iv'e had very good results from Kaspersky, Nod32 and even AVG(free) they are described as 'GOOD' because they got and caught the bugs, easy to use, and didn't hassle me for cash or email but once a year, and the 'footprint' was tiny so life can go on when they are running.
The second question you may ask yourself is .....why did M$ wait 23 years before they came up with there own AV, when they could have one from the begining, included with the os updates, and gain further billions $$$ at the same time.....go figure
