Security is only as good as the admin wants it to be. If you are security minded and pay attention to the latest exploits/whatnot your system will be relatively rock-solid. If you don't pay attention to anything and just "use defaults" you are a dumbass and should be hanged. Problem is that most NetAdmins don't take the security aspect of their job seriously or even worse don't know how.
To say Linux is more secure than Windows??? I don't think that's necessarily true (or false for that matter) as i believe it's the admin who decides how secure the box is going to be. Windows can be set up to be just as hard to hack as a Linux box. It just takes the effort to do so. In some ways, I guess that's what makes Linux "more secure" as it doesn't take so much effort.
