mobo

Processor:

i think im gonna stick with AMD, Pentiums just seem too costly in comparison.

possibility:

AMD Athlon "Barton" XP2800+ 333FSB
Price: £107.50 (£126.31 Including VAT at 17.5%)

however i can get a

AMD Athlon "Barton" XP2500+ 333FSB
for Price: £59.95 (£70.44 Including VAT at 17.5%)

approx 1/2 the price of the 2800 :/

mobo

if AMD then currently available:

Abit NF7-S v2.0 nForce2 (Socket A) Motherboard
no questions asked.

or is this: Abit KV7 KT600 (Socket A) Motherboard
gonna me much better? (not out for a wekk or 2)

cooler

need to read about these a bit, not checked them out for a while, any sugegstions. - QUIET one!

RAM

no clue currently :/
i have 712 MB DDR 2100, will it work on a new board?

SATA drive

i have 4 ATA drives but with a new mobo (with sata support) there wont be enough connectors on the mobo so will have to lose approx 100GB of ata drives, so need replacement. maybr 80 GB SATA for now. :)

PSU

like the look of the
Antec TrueBlue 480W PSU
Price: £67.90 (£79.78 Including VAT at 17.5%)
(blue light included :D:D)

muhaha thats gonna cost me.

i think definatley need
mobo processor first, then see what happens :)

potental spare components up for grabs:

40GB Maxtor ata 100 HDD
60GB Maxtor ata 100 HDD
Abit KG7 RAID
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1400MHz CPU
Coolermaster Silent Heat Pipe cpu cooler (upto amd 2100+)

thats a pretty nice system on its own lol.

Steve 07-26-2003 09:38 AM

aparently with the Barton 2500
i can wack it in the NF7 mobo
crank to 200 FPS and 11.5 multiplier to get a 3200
straight out of the box

(decent cooler obviously)

sounds good to me

staffy bull 07-26-2003 09:51 AM

not up to speed meself m8.....only seem to check out this kinda thing when money is burning hole lol.
did spot this though haven`t read up on it but hey could be worth a look 4ya

Steve 07-26-2003 12:28 PM

yeah they had it on offer 2 weks a go, it looks good but its a noisy mofo. it ok if ur box is cool, but if not it will be revving hard and whine away :(

Steve 07-27-2003 11:24 AM

hehe just went out to PC world with my m8, and they had some of the Coolermaster Aero 7+ coolers :D

so i bought one :D:D

it was cheaper then overclockers were offereing to!! i found that hard to believe, but now im sat here with a jet next to me lol!

just gonna check my temp in BIOS.. brb

coolies, its @ 44 degrees, which is the lowest it has ever been :)

BeBop 07-27-2003 11:29 AM

i need to buy silenced fans :( my computer sounds like a boeing 747 when u turn it on (5 un-silenced fans)

staffy bull 07-27-2003 12:11 PM

pc world cheaper ..............................pc world cheaper.........................*staffy picks himself up off the floor with a glazed look in his eyes*
i guess some people have golden ones after all;)

@ bebop 5 ever thought of liquid cooling m8?
btw what ya running or is it clocked then clocked and then clocked some more:naughty:

Steve 07-27-2003 12:33 PM

i bought some silent fans <18dB
cost a lot though

BeBop 07-27-2003 01:45 PM

not overclocking or anything, and i dont wanna mess w liquid cooling on this comp (i dont have enough money) i just wnat it to stay cool, because it was overheating w/o the fans in... (probably the amd fan or somethin, its stopped recently though) also i live in florida where its hot and i want it to be able to stay cool if AC breaks

staffy bull 07-27-2003 01:53 PM

ahhh i see the joys of the uk lmao.
if ours get warm we just open the window lol

BeBop 07-27-2003 02:25 PM

Diamond Bullet 07-28-2003 07:44 AM

AMD Athlon "Barton" XP2500+ 333FSB
for Price: £59.95 (£70.44 Including VAT at 17.5%)
