Hosting

Hi all, ive just started playing dflw, could any u guys pls tell me, how many ppl my server will hold without causing lag,
I have a 512k broadband cable, i have hosted lots of times on DF and my safe limit was 12 ppl without any lag probs.
As im new 2 the dflw scene im not sure.

Btw a big thx 2 the ppl that made that map manual on ur site, ive read it and have started making maps without probs, (stevie-b and living dead) good work guys

yours Bluestar

PS; do u have any other tips when hosting on dflw??

Is that a 512k Upload speed? If that's that case then host a full 16 person server :).

bluestar 04-30-2003 06:13 PM

Not sure if thats the upload speed, all i know that its a 512k broadband speed, if i tried 2 host more than 12ppl on DF it would start 2 lag, i was thinking dflw has more kick, so would i have 2 reduce the players in my server for dflw.

I don't know what the diffrence could be. But your best shot is to just give 16 a go, then keep lowering the limit untill there are no lag complaints :).

Ok thx m8

But keep in mind that peeps from overseas have more lag then those near. just try and get a bunch of peeps from different places to see what lag they suffer

Hey are u sure 512K is ur cable speed? Cause I'm seeing that as very too low  for a cable broadband at least from what i've experienced. Click here to test ur speed bud.:nerd: Maybe i'm wrong......but check it out anyways and see :gj:

bluestar 05-01-2003 06:07 AM

Yes m8 its 512k conn, i run that test and the the results came back as (great)
Ive just looked at my ISP manual and here what it says
downstream 2 my comp is upto 1mbit/s*
upstream is upto 256 kbit/s*

Like i said in my first post, when i host on DF it was a max of 12 ppl without any lag problems, im just wondering will that number of ppl on a server b the same for DFLW when i try 2 host there.

Is this good? lol i suck

staffy bull 05-01-2003 11:56 AM

i think most isp`s in general only give you 256 upstream
on home connections but hey like panther said try it and see what the results are
one thing i would suggest is try to get comments from experienced players about how lag is
because there are alot of peeps who get confused between internet lag and video lag,or keep maps simple for testing

bluestar 05-01-2003 04:54 PM

Yup ok thx all that replied.

bluestar 05-01-2003 06:09 PM

Me again guys, this is probaly a silly question, what is skins? how do u turn them on or off?

katana*GFR* 05-01-2003 06:19 PM

In the hosting options screen you can turn Skins on or off. Skins are players that look like a dif thing. So instead of looking like regular unoiform it lookes like a policeman orso

bluestar 05-01-2003 06:48 PM

Ahh lol i c , so is it recomended 2 have them turned off?

bluestar 05-01-2003 07:03 PM

YO katana*GFR* i cant c anywhere in dflw hosting screen where i can have the option 2 turn skins on or off m8 :(

¦Ðèjé¤Vü¦«§ØG» 05-01-2003 09:12 PM

click on the DFLW shortcut......right click.......then properties.
put this " /noskins" (without the " " ) after the address in the TARGET box. Make sure its outside of the parentheses ....also make sure there is a space between "/noskins" and the address

for example: "D:\Program Files\My Games\NovaLogic\Delta Force Task Force Dagger\DFTFD.EXE" /noskins

it should ork for anyone. This is what i use for my server :gj:

¦Ðèjé¤Vü¦«§ØG» 05-01-2003 09:12 PM
