Cable upgrade

At work we moved to a new building and I signed us up for comcast's new DOCSIS 3 service... This is the same thing i'll be getting at my new townhome when I move in May. Novahq will be super fast :D.

Only $99/mo

When I finally move out I will be on 50meg fiber.

They can do up to a gig for businesses. That is a gig both ways.
I think normal for business locations is 100meg which still kills a T3

Scott 03-11-2009 06:55 PM

A lot of people say they hate Comcast internet... The trick I think is to get business class at your home... It's a little bit more a month but the service is very reliable and always fast. I also get a live support person within minutes 24/7 and same day onsite support. I also don't seem to get throttled on bit torrent and there are no bandwidth caps.

The only downside I have with it is that I can't bundel it with my tv service for a better rate :(

atholon 03-11-2009 08:07 PM

Yeah, I am not that into paying $99 a month, which is a steal really.

I see t1's going for $400-500 a month.

Scott 03-11-2009 09:42 PM

We also have a T1 (1.5mb) setup because I am moving everyone to VoIP on the 16th... It's really snappy for browsing but it's not really good for downloading large files. It will be perfect for our phones though. Because our VoIP is going through the company that provides the T1 we only pay $100/mo for it. Otherwise it would be near $400...

A 100 meg connection won't necessarily kill a T3... A T3 is usually a direct dedicated connection to a major backbone and 45m/45m with extremely low latency and packet loss. Like T1's they are extremely reliable but you pay out the arse for it... Expensive but for applications like Business VoIP and critical apps that reply on the internet they should be your only option.

All of this mumbo jumbo is confusing my small mind.

VooDoo- 03-12-2009 10:09 AM

i read some bad stuff about comcast in a wired magazine not too long back .. basically this dude figured out they were censoring him and many other clients to free up bandwidth or something

SilentTrigger 03-12-2009 01:19 PM

NHQ is already fast :o

The one here is at the University of Utah. I think that is where everything ties in northern Utah.

not bad :)

atholon 05-03-2009 02:17 PM

2ms ping, w00t.

My friend has 60 Mb/s down and 30 up.

I don't think he can host though because he doesn't have access to the router.

Scott 05-06-2009 11:41 AM

Just got it installed:
