Wireless N

Got a dell gift card when I bought my laptop so decided to spend some of it on a wireless N router.. got myself a D-Link DIR-665 Xtreme N.. I've always had a grudge against D-Link but this has a ton of reviews and they are nearly all positive. It looks better and was less expensive then the wireless N linksys routers. (The linksys looks like it is capable of receiving signals from outer space)

My laptop connects at full speed :D. Wireless N seems to work great using my laptops intergrated card (Intel 4965AGN). This router has a ton of features compared to my WRT54G, let’s see if it lasts as long.

used to have a Netgear 'n' router, was really good but cost me £200 (~$400), paid too much but hey doesnt everyoe who buys the fastest stuff :/

waiting for this one to be released in the UK: http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=643 :gj:

Full speed as in???

Scott 01-21-2008 10:09 PM

130mbs

Steve 01-22-2008 10:58 AM

thought N was 280 / 300?

SilentTrigger 01-22-2008 11:24 AM

Tried a Netgear N router (280 Mbit) and it would be better to go deliver you packets yourself ;)

I'm serious :)

Steve 01-22-2008 12:32 PM

hehehe :D
tbh i'm no fan of wireless, after i spent all the money on the router i took a saw to the bottom of my bedroom door so i could fit a cable under it instead :D but that was because i was doing a lot of moving of large files, but for a laptop it's fine. the 'N' made a huge difference in the hosue i was in. regular wifi was just too weak to service a medium sized house.

Scott 01-22-2008 02:59 PM

N is capable of 300mbs but my router only does 130mbs.. which is still faster then my old 100mb wired lan. The only time I transfer large files is when I transfer them to and from my server and that's not to often. I have a 50' network cable that I will use for that :D.

I'll be switching my desktop to wireless soon also

Scott 01-24-2008 08:07 PM

Ahh!! Just put a wireless card in my desktop and am connecting at 270mps. Guess it can go higher :D. Downloading a file from my lan is definitely faster then my old wired 100mb lan. My router is about 40 feet from my desktop and I get 'excellent' signal strength.

DevilDog#1 02-16-2008 05:40 PM

I'm thinking of getting Linksys WRT600N Linksys Ultra RangePlus Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router with Storage Link (http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-WRT600...3203373&sr=8-7)

Anyone has that? I really need to use the 3Meg line :D

Scott 02-17-2008 12:00 AM

The stoarge link should be good....

VooDoo- 03-07-2008 11:57 PM

sorry to dig up an old thread .. but..

i was out of a computer for a while because of some gay windows problems .. but in that week i threw down for a d-link wireless n network adapter and router .. it kicks ass i must say .. but i got the full 300mbs :\ i duno what i did diffrenltley

Scott 03-08-2008 12:07 AM

Good :D I am still only getting 270mbs. But I am pretty far from the router, if I bring the router close I get 300. I'm fine with 270 though :D. Still faster then my old lan.
