Apple Safari Beta Browser for XP and Vista

http://www.apple.com/safari/

Edit: Faster than FF, Opera, and IE.

Hellfighter 06-12-2007 08:06 PM

its from apple.com can't be all bad, going to try it out

Scott 06-12-2007 08:37 PM

Still slower then my IE7... Only thing that's been faster is IE6 and Opera, with Opera being the fastest of them all...

DevilDog#1 06-12-2007 08:56 PM

IE7 should be called Beta too! Freaking thing is bulky as hell.

Spazz 06-12-2007 09:07 PM

i didnt care for the beta. I don't like the interface...ugly

Scott 06-12-2007 10:25 PM

IE6/7 is rock solid for me, and IE7 only slightly more bulky then IE6.. There is nothing less bulky then IE..

I installed Safari to see what my websites would look with it, and here are my results.. crash crash crash.... IE7 + Opera all the way :D

Yeah.. it's Apple's own site displaying in Apples browser.. lol :D

All I did was download, install and click the Safari icon, that's the fisrt thing that came up. As soon as I clicked one button it became unresponsive and crashed.. No text displayed anywhere on the browser and I could not type in any text boxes except the search box, and that text showed up about 1" below the text box.

I somehow clicked a Yahoo link, which loaded find and looked just like yahoo on IE/Opera, untill clicking a link crashed Safari.

Two thumbs down for this one, maybe the final will be better.

DevilDog#1 06-13-2007 12:02 AM

IcIshoot 06-13-2007 08:52 AM

I have it running in windows - perfectly.

Not sure if I'm ready to give up FF yet though

Hellfighter 06-13-2007 08:59 AM

i use
IE7
Netscape free browsers use FF/IE as will
come with anti: adware, spyware, other things too. useful tools for security
besides other plugins for it too.

J-Factor 06-13-2007 10:00 AM

Works fine for me. I still got IE6 on here. But yea Safari works fine for me.

'Day One' for Safari for Windows Becomes Zero-Day Nightmare

http://www.betanews.com/article/Day_...are/1181661606

It took security engineers perhaps less than two hours yesterday to introduce Apple's surprise entry in the field of Windows browsers to the big, cruel world of exploits and vulnerabilities, following its introduction yesterday morning at WWDC. As a result, much of the clout Safari had received as the secure browsing alternative to Internet Explorer and Firefox -- as long as it was on a Macintosh -- was burned off like fire to a flash fuse.

Errata Security engineer David Maynor had a report posted on the first vulnerability he found by 1:48 pm, complete with screenshots of the pre-crash letdown dialog produced by his fuzzing tool. As he admitted, it wasn't a difficult crash to find, posting a screen shot of the memory dump revealing both a stack corruption and an access violation, and then giving credit to Thor Larholm for posting a complete report on the calamity not an hour later.

"I downloaded and installed Safari for Windows 2 hours ago, when I started writing this," Larholm wrote, "and I now have a fully functional command execution vulnerability, triggered without user interaction simply by visiting a web site."

Both Larholm and Maynor have made it clear their intentions are simply to discover vulnerabilities and warn the vendor and the public as to their implications, not to profit from their exploitation...because, quite frankly, the exploits don't appear to be that difficult.

IcIshoot 06-13-2007 11:44 AM

lol, well it is still beta... part of the fun of using beta software :D

Personally, I'll be sticking with FF for now....

tail_gunner 06-13-2007 12:05 PM

ill second that ^ so far nothing beats FF

Steve 06-13-2007 12:06 PM

tbh i'd need a really good reason to move from FF.
same as moving from IE, i thought IE was ok until i got infested with spyware daily.

IcIshoot 06-13-2007 01:53 PM

My IE7 kept crashing...

plus I like the ability to use themes for FF.

Only time I use IE is to either check a site out for IE compatibility, or when absolutely needed (updates for example)
