Server setup :)

I deleted my old BIG newegg order thread, dunno why I did it, but I didn't really know what was going on at the time. So i'll start a new one. My lil server blog here :p

Got the server up and running this morning. My god this thing is fast. Thoes raptor hard drives made a HUGE diffrence. I loaded windows server 2003 in 7 minutes from power on to on the desktop. It literally blazes through the loading screen on boot also, dosen't even make it past the first loading bar. I know what i'll be getting next time I come across a large sum of money :D.

Tape drive was alot easier then I thought. My god it scares me when it runs tho, sounds like a big ass floppy. lol

:rantsign:

I will NEVER buy an Asus motherboard again, EVER. My first experiance was bad, and this one was a big pain in my ass also. If I haden't learned more over time and had extra computers around I would have given up. I don't know what it is, me and Asus never get along :(. These things never seem to boot right outa the box. Abit, MSI, ASRock and ECS have never given me these problems. I have 2 active Abit's, have used about 7-8 total, 6 MSI, 2 ASRock and 2 ECS and none have EVER given me ANY problems what-so-ever.

First the system would not post. I just kept hitting reset and finally after about 30 times it posts. So were setting up the bios. Loading windows.. everything is smooth, except the system won't shutdown on it's own. I search google and narrow it down to the bios. So I have to flash back a version to solve my problem. I hate flashing the bios (scary?). So I flash the bios, system will not post. It seems to freeze on the logo screen. ARGH! So I take out all the ram except 1 stick, and repeat to see if there is a bad one. All of the sudden 1 is bad. So i play around with the other 3 and can't get it to boot. There are 6 ram spots here (4 for 1 CPU and 2 for the other) so there is lots of playing around. Finally I figure out it will only install in pairs. So I can only use 2GB untill I get another 1GB stick. So we go to try and load windows and no go. Aparently when you setup a raid in the bios it automatically deletes the data, without asking or a warning. My abit gives me a warning damnit! I get to choose if I want to erase all data!

Now i'm scared to install more ram because every time I add or remove ram in the mobo it resets the bios, and that resets the raid, and creating a raid erases all data. Argh.....
