Teen Showered with Prizes After Downloading iTune's Billionth Song
Michigan teenager Alex Ostrovsky didn't realize that when he downloaded Coldplay's "Speed of Sound" from iTunes he was buying the one-billionth song sold from the service since it started three years ago.
The 16-year-old got a 20-inch iMac, a $10,000 iTunes gift card and 10 fifth-generation iPods from Apple for his lucky click. The company is also establishing a Julliard School of Music scholarship in Ostrovsky's name.
The popularity of iTunes is also reflected in declining CD sales, with sales dropping by nearly 150 million from 2001 to 2005.
