xbox - xbox360, ps2 or ps3?

me and lindsay (p's girl) are trying to decide between the 4 systems.. I know the ps3 isn't out yet.. I'm trying to get her to go for an xbox and then a 360 later on when they are a bit cheaper.. anyone have any experiance with these systems? I can pick up a xbox with about 10 games for $190 but the 360 alone is $400

I haven't owned or really played on a console system since the n64..

I played on a neighbours Xbox 360 recently bro and it is a very good game console and the graphics looked awesome but he has since said to me that he's had a few problems with the console such as error messages occuring during game play for no apparent reason.

I am seriously considering buying an Xbox 360 but I've heard from a contact in my local "Game" store that the PS3 should be with us by spring, (by which I assume he means the U.S.), and definitely in the U.K. by summer, so I will probably wait for the PS3 as I've had a PS2 for 2 years now and it's still running as well as when I first bought it.

Warm regards

im selling my chipped Ps2 and going for a Ps3 when its out.... pitty u cant chip that tho... due to the different disc format

the Ps3 has far better specs and is the easiest to control tho... from what i know of the ps1 and ps2.. the controls are the same.. just a different shape! :)

definately go with the 360. It comes in two packages, the core system which costs $300 and the premium package that is priced at $400.

Core system- the core system includes the xbox 360 and a wired controller. It does not contain a harddrive which allows you to save games. IMO, this is a waste.

Premium- The premium package includes the 360, wireless controller, harddrive, HD connection cables, wireless xboxlive headset, and a silver membership to xbox live. The harddrive alone costs $100 so the premium is well worth the price.

I do believe that you should have a high def tv if you want the 360...it still looks good in standard def, but the difference and sharpness is phenominal in high def. Xbox live also is the most advanced and complete online system for any consol.

I do have a Ps2 also, so i'm not just a microsoft fanboy

and to everyone who is obsessing over the Ps3's "graphics" the majority of games that have been shown (MGS4, Killzone 2, FIght night) have all been pre-rendered movies and not in real time.

What do you mean you can't save games? Like you cant save a season of NHL2006 unless you buy the extra harddrive?

What we also like to know is if the xbox 360 is compatible with some of the older xbox games.. we've read alot but everyone sais something diffrent . I herd something about being able to do it through xbox live, but I don't think we'll want to pay a monthly subscription fee for it..

Spazz 01-10-2006 05:00 PM

alright.

the xbox 360 uses a detachable 20gig harddrive to save games and store other data, just like a computer. But the core package doesnt come with a harddrive, so you'd need to go out and buy a $40 memory unit to save games.

The xbox 360 is backwards compatable for approximately 200 best selling games atm. But, soon M$ will be releasing a patch over xboxlive that will enable all games to be backwards compatable.

and Xbox live is only $50 a year

we can't really decide which one is better until the PS3 comes out cause who knows what will be instore...

The 360

The 360

I say the Xbox 360 is going to rule! But I have no idea why it is called 360!

would the xbox 360 work to play older games with just the memory unit or would we need the hard drive.?

Scott 01-10-2006 05:43 PM

Thanks spazz.. Really helpful so far

Kandi 01-10-2006 05:44 PM

yes sir :p what he said ^^^

Steve 01-10-2006 06:02 PM

buy another pc :p

Kandi 01-10-2006 06:09 PM

what?? :S

Spazz 01-10-2006 07:56 PM

good question..

You do need the harddrive for the xbox 360 to be backwards compatable. So if you do decide to go for a 360..definately get the premium package.

I guess I should note the price of the games coming out for the 360

1st party games (microsoft) are still $50.

but 3rd party games, the majority, are more expensive at $60, which totaly sucks.
