Two Britons have been killed and three injured in an attack on a bus in Baghdad, officials in Iraq say.

They died when gunmen ambushed the bus carrying Muslim pilgrims south of the city.

The attack took place when the bus was drawing up to a checkpoint in the Dora neighbourhood.

It had been taking Shi'ite Muslim passengers to religious sites.

The dead and injured - four men and one woman, reportedly of "South Asian heritage" and carrying UK passports - were taken to a city hospital.

A Foreign Office investigation has been launched.

Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said he was unable to confirm the reports, but reiterated Foreign Office advice for Britons to avoid Iraq.

Sir Iqbal Sacranie, general secretary of the Muslim Council of Britain, said there were several sites of religious significance in the area where the bus was attacked.

He added between 5,000 and 10,000 mainly Shia community members took pilgrimages there from Britain every year.

yet again, more innocent people suffer :(

The carnage and death in Iraq seems to be continuing unabated at the moment and these sad deaths are yet more examples of the general situation in some parts of Iraq.

its sad when they say we are at war with them and they are kill off all people even the Muslim pilgrims to-boot.

the truth of the matter there is no war only jerks getting a cheap laugh out of kill people. they don't even care who they kill off Petty bad i say.

totally sad when some one get kill? they don't have anything to do with the other party reason at all.

wish they grow up and get smart and stop their killing of people who not even their fight at all.
