Help X-Fire!

Yahoo and Xfire are currently in a legal battle over copyright. The internet giants are claiming X-Fire is based on their own copyrighted propriety and are attempting to run them out of business.

March 10, 2005
Xfire filed a countersuit against Yahoo. The countersuit states that Yahoo’s lawsuit is a baseless attempt to drive Xfire out of business or to force Xfire to sell or license its proprietary technology. Read the announcement.

February 9, 2005
Xfire responds to patent infringement claim and offers Yahoo the following options to prove we do not infringe its patent:
We have offered to let Yahoo’s co-founders, Jerry Yang and David Filo, review our code to make them comfortable that we don’t infringe Yahoo’s patent.
We have offered mediation as a step towards resolving the matter.
Finally, we are willing to pursue arbitration, in which case we will accept the arbitrator’s decision as binding and final. Read more...

Recon. I hope you don't mind but I edited your post. Simply because your opinion of yahoo as retards doesnt neccessarily reflect the opinion of the owners of this site.

It pretty much nails my opinion of the miserable sods though!!
Thanks for highlighting this!

sorta strange having a massive internet company, fight a small well known message program that everyone loves, I dont see why they are, msn and aim are almost the same, right?

zza1pqx 03-11-2005 11:57 AM

I think its about more than that. The messenger, the game compatibility and the server tracking system Yahoo says is based on their code.
Yahoo bought out All Seeing Eye recently and I suspect they are just trying to burn the competition so that people use a product they have invested in.
X Fire is a lot better than A.S.E in many ways and came out of nowhere. Which makes Yahoos acquisition very bad business.
I dont think acting a tit with gamers favourite companies is a good way of anamouring us to them
To be honest I would have been happy if they had sodded off and stayed as a second rate search engine.
Now the buggers are everywhere, even in my ISP.

I didn't even know that X-fire existed until I saw it here :D Not THAT well known is it? :p

It's a bad move by yahoo, it's MAJOR publicity for x-fire, one of there not well known competitors. If yahoo doesn't win the suite and manage to take x-fire out, they just kicked there self in the arse and made x-fire a well known competitor.

Recon 03-11-2005 05:02 PM

xfire's going to win, i got no doubt for some reason, i just feel like they got yahoo nailed, cause they did nothing wrong

JonM 03-11-2005 06:04 PM

ehhh yahoo has lots of money tho... lol

JonM 03-11-2005 06:11 PM

but if xfire can pull it off, it was just free advertising, sry tried to edit myy post but it's turned off in here...

the þrox™ 03-11-2005 06:50 PM

agreed, real bad move on yahoo's behalf, their only giving publicity to xfire.

EDGE 03-11-2005 06:51 PM

zza, what exactly is All Seeing Eye? I don't get why Yahoo is trying to sue XFire for Patent Infringement unless XFire stole All Seeing Eye's (Now Yahoo's) idea? I thought XFire was out before Yahoo bought out this All Seeing Eye thing? So, how can Yahoo do anything about it?

Recon 03-11-2005 06:55 PM

ur correct edge, they are just out to drive people out of business, great business ethnics, xfire did nothing..., i think yahoo's plan is, if they don't win, its nothing to them, but xfire may go bankrupt allowing them to get xfire's code or w.e

Stu 03-12-2005 05:01 AM

devildog, it is well known mate :p
http://www.xfire.com/xf/modules.php?...dy=xf_partners
^^ If they say they are some of their sponsers/partners, do you recon they have a chance against yahoo ?

DogSoldier~MLK~ 03-12-2005 09:35 AM

In my opinion Yahoo are just looking for a way to make more money and to eliminate any competition that may lose them customers...

I myself use Xfire and i think that it is a great program for online gaming.

DogSoldier~MLK~ 03-12-2005 09:36 AM

Also with all there well known sponser/partners as Tec says i dont think Yahoo will have a chance

All Seeing Eye is a server finding suite (a bit like Fileplanets, Gamespy).
I didn't suggest XFire took propriety technology from the ASE team but I suspect the long term plans for Yahoo was to intergrate ASE backbone into their messenger service.
If they did it succesfuly a server finder/messenger service based on ASE and Yahoo Messenger would be pioneering and move Yahoo in a new direction.

However they didn't do it quick enough and now some upstart company called X-Fire is already well established.
I wonder if Yahoo would give a monkeys if they hadn't been banking on moving in the direction of X-Fire.
Their acquisition of ASE - in my opinion - confirms their company direction.
XFrire is in the way. I suspect that is why they are vilifing them.

DevilDog#1 03-12-2005 12:32 PM

AA and Ghost Recon uses ASE

BeBop 03-12-2005 03:44 PM

What would their sponsors help them with? If you go on Yahoo! Games they've got some of the same things going on, adn chances are since Yahoo has a game subscriber service where they pay the companies (some of x-fires sponsors) anyways, it wouldnt make sense.

I used Xfire for a little bit but it got annoying to use. (to many messenger programs...)

Not sure if any of that made any sense.... BTW AA also uses Gamespy and Andromeda.

Hellfighter 03-12-2005 03:52 PM

they like to be the big boy yahoo and Xfire already jump into it, i say to bad for yahoo and all their lazy tech who could not jump faster into the ballgame. personnaly i think Xfire did not break any copy rights at all. it Yahoo who trying to take it over and steal their way into it all. it sad

atholon 03-14-2005 04:03 PM

Yahoo sucks as an ISP, search engine, email provider, IM and whatever else they do.

Google ownz em all and I never heard of Xfire before.
