Flaw in Numbering Map Downloads...maybe?

I tried downloading a map but I changed my mind....I got to the point of almost saying "yes" to download but I didn't click "Yes"....I clicked cancel instead. And that map gained 1 download....

Not a bug.. there is no way to determain if you clicked yes to download the map, then add a hit.. it adds one after you click the link assuming you downloaded it.

BoyTigas 03-03-2004 07:34 AM

I might be telling it wrongly....OK...a hit after I downloaded it right?...But I compared it with dfbarracks....their's doesn't give a hit when you cancel the download. Hmmmm?

OK....to prove it....My map "Diamond" the original number of d/ls is 61...I'll make it 100. Just put it back to 61.

I have checked the number of hits as well....it also increased by 39...;)

Who cares if a map got a "download point" and it wasnt really downloaded?

At least the maker can know that it was considered "or" downloaded X number of times.

This is DFHQ.net. Not dfbarracks;)

BoyTigas 03-03-2004 04:12 PM

I care....and maybe dfhq.net would attend to this matter if proven I'm right....for sure with their talents in programming, they can easily correct this asap.
If not :*( then; This is DFHQ.net. Not dfbarracks;)

:D if admin will ignore this...its OK.:D

Scott 03-03-2004 04:33 PM

It isn't possible...

Scott 03-03-2004 04:38 PM

dfb does the same thing as this site does, just completly reload the page, after trying by pressing F5. You have to understand how downloading works to know what I am talking about. When you click the LINK it is set as a download, because to get the file to you it has to go through the script, as soon as it goes through the script theres no going back, and it just isn't possible to know if you clicked "Save" or "open", because it is part of your Browser and not our script. Because buy that time it is passed throug the script..

I can't do anything about that, except maybe add a ip based tracker so if you click the link twice you only get one hit per user on the same map. That's all I can do. And to do that, with a few thousand maps, and a few hundred, even thousand hits on each map it would take a nice ammount on the db size to track them all.

lol... it does for me
just have to refresh page the the counter goes up one.. noob :p

BoyTigas 03-03-2004 04:46 PM

Still? I made an example....if you look at the number of d/ls of the map "Diamond" it is now 101....it used to be 61.
I clicked cancel for 39 times....and that's how I got 39 more hits in 4 minutes.

Steve 03-03-2004 04:48 PM

congratulations....
what do u want?
u can do that at any website

Scott 03-03-2004 04:50 PM

For the last time, websites can only tell if you clicked the link, past that they have no conrtol.

BoyTigas 03-03-2004 04:52 PM
