Internet Explorer.. Auto open after down FIX

Battled this for the longest time, searches on google and all others never gave me an answer, neither upgrading or reinstalling IE either. I alaways has to completly re-install windows to fix it.

What am I talking about? Have you ever downloaded a zip or other file, and unchecked that stupid box that sais "Always ask before opening this type of file"? I have, many times. And it drives me insane because I wouldn't save files to my drive, well I could but I always had to run around and find it first. Well now I got a fix for it. Stumbled across it when I was told to look there for adding icons. Anyways, here is my fix:

Open my computer, on the top go to Tools > Folder Options.

Click the file types tab and scroll down in the window till you see the zip (Or any other file extension that opens automatically after download) file extenstion, of course it's near the bottom as they are in order by name.

Highlight it by clicking on it and then look near the bottom, a new tab called "advanced" is avaliable, click that.

Now at the bottom where it sais "Confirm open after down" make sure the box is checked.

Apply and exit. Volia!

How did you reinstall IE, using the INF directory and your XP Cd?

There are several things you can do:

1. I am not 100% sure about this but I think you can simply goto Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->Add/Remove Windows Components and uncheck Internet Explorer and click ok. Then re-install it.

2. With IE open, click Tools/Internet Options/Programs and click the Reset Web Settings button. Under the Reset button there is a button Manage Add-Ons, which allows you to disable any undesired add-ons... you can also try HiJackThis freeware and remove your BHOs.

3. If you want to re-install but you get an error message saying "new version already found" or something like that... read this post (http://www.internetexplorerquestions.org/ftopic739.html)

One more thing... if your still using SP1... upgrade to SP2 A.S.A.P if you are using broadband... or you will have lotsa spyware problems.
