Wtf?

i just added some init strings to my modem to try to speed it up.it did connect at 24k, after i added this string..AT&F1&K3S15=2S11=38S27=16S0=0
it now says i am connected at 230.4kbps,
any1 know how to save the screen to file to be posted, ill show ya, lol

trying to figure out how this can be being i only got dialup.

can now load the new thread page in under 2 seconds where it used to take over 6, just weird

Mstenger404 04-15-2006 09:27 PM

go download something to see how fast

Mauser 98K 04-15-2006 09:28 PM

do ya know where i can find a connection tester site?

Mstenger404 04-15-2006 09:35 PM

i tried one once but i forget what it was and i think its inacurate, because the fastes ive ever downloaded something was 150kb it said 500

dslreports.com

Mauser 98K 04-15-2006 09:50 PM

ok did a few more tweaks, turned up port speed and buffers, and did a few other little thingies and now it says im connected at 921.6kbps lmao.
be cool if it wernt inaccurate, lol

Well, there is 2 units of measurements - Kilobytes per/second (Kbs) and Kilobites per/second (KBs)

So 960.1 kbs (kilobites per/second) is only 115 Kilobytes (KBs).

So, is that unit in Kilobites per second, or kilobytes per second :)

ok i found what it was doing.
it was showing the port speed rather than the connection speed, would have been nice if it was the connection speed.

Hellfighter 04-16-2006 12:00 AM

lmao

will the real upload and download port speed is not the real thing when it come to the pipe line internet dial-up goes, nice try anyways.

as i know it some download can be avg 5kb-6kb, upload is like 2kb.

good old days i had my 56k going at 52.0 that was sweet then it gone bad, good old redowl, thats the most i ever seen.

Mstenger404 04-16-2006 07:01 AM

the most ive ever seen my old dial-up connection ever do was 30kb per seconds but that was as soon as I started downloading something, it would immediatly drop to 5kbps

DogSoldier~MLK~ 04-16-2006 09:01 AM

i think the last time i had a 56k modem which was about 1999 or so i downloaded about 10kb maximum..

VooDoo- 04-16-2006 09:58 AM

i was lucky to get 5kb/s when i had 56k a long time ago lol

-Tigger- 04-16-2006 10:43 AM

56k i had only done a max of 7 lol

milk 04-16-2006 05:43 PM

i dont know what mine was but i know it was ssssslllllllooooooowwwwww!

Mauser 98K 04-16-2006 09:09 PM

im lucky to see 2k download rate on this crappy connection.
me and bellsouth have been going round and around, ive done told them if they dont get their head out of their ass and fix the thing im going to a diffrent ISP.
then they get snotty and say, well if speed is important then i should get DSL, then i go to the DSL page and it aint avalable where i am.
then i tell them on the next email that it aint avalable where i am.

then they say something like we are sorry for the inconveniance and since the problem is of a technical nature your entire e-mail has been forwarded to the tech department, we will try to get this issue solved as soon as possable.
then 1, 2, 3, 4 months later it is still the same, and gets 100bps slower than the last time.

evrytime ya tell these bozos at bellsouth that ya have a problem ya connection getsa slower, the 1st time i complained to them i was connecting at 29-30k now after 5 e-mails i am now at 18k to 23k.

when i get some money saved up im splurging for cable and telling them to go F$%^$ themselves.

do i smell a lawsuit?
