your Bois sound like got mix up really bad

same thing happen to me, i had to re-instill the Bois in.

personnel i would re-instill the Bois! i Intel has a bad Bois update listed for their MOB it did basic the same as your's i re-instill a older Bois update fix everything

[first]
*have you change any of the setting in the Bois? at all before,

if not call the maker of the MOB or the Computer MFG who sold you the Computer see if there a Bois update or if there some way to correct it in the Bois setting.

i have two sets to the front of my tower.

does the USB Controller show in the Device Manger?

it is pretty much impossible to be due to corrupt BIOS! especially if the only thing u have done is format.

XP has a general issue with USB, so it might eb difficult to fully track down. but let us know if its in the contol panel first.

Did you re-install the modem Drivers?

If after following Steve's suggest you find it isn't listed, you may have to install the usb drivers.

All my motherboards come with a motherboard driver disk that installs all the drivers for all the on-board devices, and in the past, the usb (or sound) wouldn't work until I installed that driver pack.

if your USB ports are working, then when you plug soemthing into em windows should detect it pretty quick.

try the intergrated ones on the motherboard
